Care home residents watch live stream of Tommy the Musical thanks to NU living

NU living were proud to sponsor a Live Stream of the matinee performance of Tommy the Musical, from the Stratford, East Theatre to Silk Court and Chant Square Care facilities in Stratford East London.

The performance was beamed directly from the Theatre in real-time to Silk Court, which provides residential and dementia care for elderly people and Chant Square, which offers specialist support for people with learning disabilities and more complex needs such as dementia. The live stream which was organised by the Theatre, gave the care home residents a rare opportunity to enjoy the show with their family and friends from the comfort of their lounge.

The multi-camera shoot ensured that the experience on screen captured the spirit of the stage as the care home residents came together in communal spaces to watch the show through their television. The experience was amplified further, as the cast not only gave a ‘shout out’ live from the stage; they gave programmes to everyone watching and even came to visit the residents.

Geoff Pearce, Executive Director of Regeneration and Development said:

“We were very proud to sponsor this event. Both these care facilities are local to us, with Chant Square being within walking distance of our Stratford office. As a provider of supported housing across Essex and East London, projects such as this speak to us and our social purpose, helping to improve the lives of our residents, not just through building exemplar homes, but also building strong communities and increasing the well-being of all our residents.”

Marcus Romer, Creative Director of the project, has written a truly heartwarming blog about the day and the impact it had on one particular resident he met. You can read the blog here: Making the good stuff happen
